Materials

 

Hook - 3x long saltwater hook - TMC 9394 or Mustad S74SNP-DT, sizes 10 - 6

Thread - red or black 6/0

Tail - red & yellow hackle or hair - or red Krystal Flash sparse

Body - yellow chenille

Rib - silver flat tinsel medium

Wing (optional) - white bucktail

Hackle - red and yellow grizzly hackle

 

  1. Apply thread to hook shank and tie in tail.
  2. Tie in tinsel and chenille at hook bend and move thread up to two eye-widths back from the the hook eye.
  3. Wrap chenille forward and rib with tinsel.
  4. If using, tie sparse wing of white bucktail no longer than the tips of the tail.
  5. Tie in yellow grizzly by the butt and tie in red grizzly immediately in front, both wet fly style.  Move the thread to hook eye.  Wrap the hackles together making about 3 wraps and tie off.
  6. Form a neat thread head, whipfinish and glue.
