Steelhead Fly

Hook - #6 Steelhead hook
Thread - 6/0 black
Tag - flat silver tinsel
Tail - golden pheasant tippet
Tag - black ostrich herl - 1 or 2 strands
Body - orange floss
Rib - oval tinsel
Wing - bucktail - white then orange

1.  Cover hook with thread and move to just above hook point.
2.  Tie in tinsel for tag and wrap back to bend of the hook and then back up to thread.  Tie down and bind down end.  Tie off tinsel.  Thread is still in position above hook point.
3.  Tie on golden pheasant tippet for tail, two wraps loosely then pull it down gently to tent it a little.  Bind feather shaft down and tie off.
4.  Tie in ostrich herl just at the tail.  Move thread up just a couple of wraps.  Wrap ostrich over hook 2 - 3 times and tie off.
5.  Right ahead of the ostrich herl tie in rib and then floss.  Move thread up to about 1 1/2 eye lengths back from the hook eye.  ?6.  Wrap floss up to thread and tie off.  Make 6 - 7 wraps of rib over floss and tie off.
7.  Tie in two very sparse clumps of bucktail one on top of the other for the wing, first white to just before the end of the tail, then orange to just before the end of the white bucktail.  Make a neat thread head.  Whipfinish and tie off thread.
